Family Portrait – Stephen, Lisa and the boys

It was lovely to see Lisa and Stephen back today in the studio with their two boys. I photographed their wedding 9 years ago at Highfield Park near Heckfield. I often think of the wedding album as your first family heirloom and I think it’s great to see my brides and grooms back with their growing families to shoot  some pictures to add to their collection of memories. Does that sound cheesy? I think images like these are irreplaceable when the children are grown up and left home. Here’s a few favourites from the session.

Airborne baby!

The boys.

Check out those big blue eyes!

A relaxed family picture to finish off.

Victoria and Richard – Pre Wedding Engagement Shoot

Victoria and Richard are getting married later this year and we met today to shoot some images before the wedding. It was a grim rainy afternoon so we stayed inside. Of course, studio photography is totally different to the photography on a typical wedding day but it’s always nice to photograph a bride and groom before the celebrations when we have a little more time to take some pictures.

The reception venue for V & R’s wedding is the beautiful Monkey Island in Bray. I know from today’s session it’s going to to be a nice relaxed wedding – I’m looking forward to it :)

Here’s a couple of favourites.

Reading Portrait Photography – Baby Elsie

Here is 8 week old Baby Elsie. I photographed her parents wedding in ’03 and their son Sidney a couple of years ago so it was a pleasure to see Elsie today. She’s lovely but was quite sick everywhere sadly. The poor little munchkin had been quite ill recently but is on the mend now. I love black and white for babies, I think it’s a really good choice as the pictures have much more meaning when the child is older or grown up even – the monochrome concentrates your attention on the subject I think.

Here’s a couple of favourite pictures from todays session.

Wayne the Mystifier (!)

Today I had the pleasure of photographing Wayne, a self-styled “psychological illusionist”. He has a new website and needed some edgy, slightly unsettling images to help portray his character. Wayne entertains at parties and events with his own brand of slightly weird illusions, mind reading and other strange stuff.

After shooting some pictures in the studio we went to a dilapidated farm near my studio which is pretty run down and has seen better days – the farm that is, not my studio :)

Hope you enjoy the pictures – different to my normal work and great fun to shoot.

I like the background in this image – with most of these pictures I made the colours a bit muted and cool.

I found a discarded roll of barbed wire and hung it on the wall, I think the halo effect is pretty interesting as Wayne’s illusions are based around the workings of the mind.

I like the way the flash has lit the grass – it gives the image quite a surreal look.

We found this old fork in the corner of the abandoned barn. Wayne can turn on this disquitening stare like a light switch…I like the way the fork looks a bit like a mask or the bars of a jail.

Thanks for looking!

Baby Shelby

It’s always lovely to see brides and grooms back with their new families. Katie and Ben got married a couple of years ago and it was a pleasure to see them back with baby Shelby! Isn’t she a cutie?

Weirdness

My friend Simon Alexander does some very strange things. He is a magician and we regularly bump into each other at weddings and other functions. Yesterday we set out to shoot some pictures of fire. Here’s one of my favourite images. No lighting on this shot – just a camera, a candlestick and a man with some very freaky abilities.

Clive

Some prestidigitation and legerdemain today in my studio as I photographed Clive, a magician who provides entertainment at weddings and parties. Here’s a few favourites from the shoot. The idea was to provide a pile of interesting images that Clive can use for his soon-to-be-launched website.
