Marriott Hotel Maidstone | Leanne and Steve’s Wedding

Wedding photos at Marriott Hotel Wedding Photographers by Simon Kemp

You can imagine that starting off in the rain for a trip around the M25 wasn’t the best beginning to a Saturday but all was great when I arrived for the wedding at the Tudor Marriott Hotel near Maidstone. The rain was confined to the morning and I am pleased to report that the day was warm and lovely. It was a great crowd today and everyone was very friendly. We were able to spend most of the time on the terrace at the back of the hotel.

If you were at the wedding and would like to know when the complete gallery is uploaded, CLICK HERE and I’ll send you an email.

As always here are a few favourite images that caught my eye.

The Tudor Marriott Hotel is also a golf course so we took our lives in our hands, dodged the golf balls and did some photogrpahy on the edge of the fairway. I’m glad we did though as these are amongst my favourites from the wedding day.

Steve and Leanne are both chefs, so the food was important to them. Here are some photographs I took during the buffet meal.

Great Fosters Wedding Photography | Cathryn and Paul

Wedding photos at St. Marys Church Sunbury wedding photos by Simon Kemp

So who knew the weather was going to be this good for Cat and Paul’s wedding today. The forecast had been for a decidedly gloomy day so it was a pleasure to see the sun coming through as I drove up to Hampton Hill to start the photography for today.

I love starting the day with the bridal preparations, it always adds to the story in my opinion and it’s always great to capture the preparations. The ceremony itself was at St. Mary’s in Sunbury, down by the Thames and afterwards off to one of my favourite wedding venues – Great Fosters Hotel near Egham.

As always, here are a few favourite photographs from the day – more on Facebook. The complete gallery will be uploaded when Cat and Paul have seen the photographs. If you would like to  know when all the images are ready for viewing CLICK HERE and I will drop you a line.

Some favourites from the morning. As you might know I do like an arty wedding shoe photograph :) The stars on the window caught my eye for this image.

Chilling out in the morning. The calm before the storm and all that. These times are lovely to record because I know they go so quickly and are easily forgotten after the wedding.

It’s a dangerous place to be – in the bathroom with the bridesmaids but somebody has to do it…. :)

Chris and Katherine | High Rocks Wedding Photography

Katherine and Chris got married today at All Saints Church in Crowborough and the reception was held at the High Rocks just outside Tunbridge Wells. As usual the photography started off in the morning at Katherine’s parents house. It’s always nice that the groom gets to see a little bit of his fianceé’s morning.

It was a beautiful spring day in Kent, just perfect for wedding photography with some light clouds to take the edge off the sunshine. Katherine and Chris were great to work with – pretty relaxed, which is a great way to approach the wedding day.

Here are a few images that caught my eye. If you were at the wedding and would like to know when the complete gallery will be uploaded, just CLICK HERE and I will drop you a line.

The lady in the picture is Katherine’s grandmother, sadly no longer with us. I thought it was nice to include this in the composition.

The beautiful bride.

It’s very exciting being a bridesmaid. You get to dress like a princess, get spoiled rotten and don’t get told off (too much) for running around all day.

A wedding group photograph. I love photographing these because I  know that in 30 or 40 years, these will be among the most treasured photographs from the day. I always like to quickly organise these so you don’t have the dreaded ‘football team’ lineup. It’s great how everybody is on different levels in this relaxed image and this makes it more interesting to look at as a photograph.

iPhone Photography in Barbados

I was lucky enough to travel to Barbados last year and I was looking forward of course to photographing my journey around the island and documenting some of the scenes and the life of this beautiful Caribbean island. I had recently downloaded the Hipstamatic app. for my iPhone 3GS and was keen to try it out. In much the same way as if I buy a new camera or lens it’s important to me as a professional photographer to give new kit a thorough workout and discover how it performs under as wide a range of conditions as possible. The iPhone camera intrigued me because there are no controls of any kind, no exposure compensation (though I did find a workaround for that), no focussing as such (although you can determine an approximate focus point) and no sensitivity controls for the camera sensor. In a way this can free you up as a photographer to concentrate on the visual side of things and particularly the composition of the frame.

The Hipstamatic app was interesting. First of all the image area is square which I have always loved since I bought my first Mamiya C330 way back in the film days. Secondly, you can determine a whole range of looks with this camera application by choosing (software based) ‘lenses’ and ‘films’ within the programme. Added to this was the quirk that you had to wait about 20 seconds between frames. Just like loading large format film, you had to be *really* sure you wanted to take the photograph :) No machine gunning of the subject with this camera. By the way, the app. has been upgraded since my trip and the time between exposures is now a lot less. On the plus side, well, the camera is a phone really so no one pays that much attention to it in public which means you can get some cool shots without being noticed.

I was looking for an approach to my photography in Barbados so decided to exclusively use my iPhone for the photography. A bit mad I realise, but my back thanked me for not lugging around my usual kit. I used one particular setting in the Hipstamatic app. as a sort of unifying look to the series and set off to document the details of the towns, villages and beaches of Barbados. If you like you can scroll backwards through time on my iPhone photography blog or click on the archive button to see the rest. Thanks for looking and any comments are welcome!

Michala and Dave’s Wedding at Silchester House

Today I was at Silchester House near Reading for Michala and Dave’s wedding. It’s been a little while since I attended a Silchester House wedding and I’d forgotten how lovely it was there, especially with the beautiful spring weather. The house had been recently redecorated and everything looked fantastic.

Here are a few favourites from the day!

The beautiful bouquet.

Let me know if you know the name of these amazing flowers :)  They grow like that apparently and gave Michala’s bouquet had an unusual texture.
